Choosing the installation location
The Starlink dish requires a reasonably clear view of the sky above the mounting position. Trees, rooflines, chimneys, adjacent buildings and other obstructions can partially block the signal path and reduce performance, so the mounting location is chosen to maximise sky visibility across the whole property, not just at a single moment.
Where appropriate, Netlink uses the official Starlink app to assess potential obstructions before drilling or mounting. This gives an honest indication of whether a proposed position is workable, or whether a different mount type — such as a pole or a taller wall bracket — is a better long-term outcome.

Cable routing and weather sealing
The Starlink cable is routed externally along a safe, protected path from the dish down to the building. Sharp bends, unsupported spans and areas exposed to accidental damage — for example a driveway edge or a mower path — are avoided so the cable is not compromised over time.
Where the cable enters the building, we use a weather-sealed entry point rather than running the cable through a window or door frame. Loose cables through windows or doors are not a suitable permanent solution — they compromise weatherproofing, security and appearance, and often fail within months.
Once inside, the cable is positioned neatly along skirtings, in ceiling voids or through wall cavities where accessible, and terminated in a suitable location for the router or network equipment.
Router, Ethernet and Wi-Fi setup
Dish positioning and Wi-Fi coverage are two separate considerations. The dish needs the clearest sky-view; the router needs to be located where it can reach the areas people actually use. On many sites these two positions are not the same, and the right internal cabling solves that gap.
