Cabling in Pokolbin is very different from any coastal or industrial precinct. Distance between buildings is the defining challenge. A cellar-door business might have a tasting room, an administration office, a bottling shed, a barrel store, a residence for the winemaker and a function pavilion, all sitting on the same property but hundreds of metres apart. Wi-Fi cannot bridge those distances reliably, and copper Ethernet is limited to 90 metres before signal integrity degrades — so single-mode fibre backbones between building points are almost always the right answer, with fibre-to-Ethernet conversion at each building. Cellar-door and function-venue CCTV briefs are tightly shaped by hospitality operating norms. Tasting room and public-facing camera positioning has to be sensitive to guest experience — most operators specifically ask for discreet, non-domed hardware over the tasting counter, coverage of the cellar-door entrance and cellar-door car park, coverage of any barrel-store or working-cellar area accessible to visitors, and coverage of the loading dock and rear delivery area (out of guest sightlines). Wedding and function venues add coverage of the pavilion or reception space (again with discreet hardware), external ceremony sites (where the customer often wants a temporary wet-weather backup camera rather than a permanent install) and vehicle-arrival areas.

Rural fibre availability shapes what the operator can subscribe to. Some Pokolbin sites are on wired NBN, others are on Fixed Wireless, and a growing number are on satellite (Starlink) for guest and staff internet. We work with the operator's chosen carrier and ensure the on-site backbone is future-proofed — if the carrier upgrades from Fixed Wireless to fibre in the future, the internal backbone continues to work without a full rebuild. Wildlife damage to overhead cables (birds, possums, kangaroos) is a real factor, so external cabling is either buried or run in armoured conduit. Cabling challenges specific to Pokolbin include long distances between site points, fibre-first backbone design, rural carrier variability, guest-experience-aware CCTV positioning and seasonal demand spikes around vintage and wedding season.
